Q-Country 92.7 Night at the Races at I-35 Speedway
WINSTON, MO (May 3, 2014) – Grand Nationals took to a near perfect 3/8 mile track and proceeded to set the standard for the night’s feature events. “The Sensation” Austin Johnson #98 would use a front row starting position to lunge out to an early lead and never relinquish the top spot on his way to victory. Two veteran drivers in Buz “Wamba” Kaster and “The Alien” Don Marrs would battle side by side until Kaster #54 would take over the second spot, holding Marrs #9 to place third. “The Moose” was truly loose as Houston Johnson #97 would run down the top contenders, only to fall short on laps and finish fourth. “Biggen” Marty Powell #9p would have another solid run as he raced his way to fifth. The heat race winner was Buz Kaster.
Like a broken record that plays the same tune each week, the USRA Stock Cars prove once again to be the feature of the night. “Big” Jeff Dixon #88 would hold off all challengers by threading the needle off turn two to snag victory number one of this young 2014 season. Dixon would run a perfect line all race keeping track newcomer Justin Seifert #37 at bay to settle for second. “Hollywood” Dean Wray #77 would battle the two front runners mounting charge after charge only to be denied every time and end the night in third place. “Cruiser” John Crews #12c would have another consistent night as he would place fourth. One time lead contender Thomas Roberts #65x, after a tangle with lap traffic and forced to the hot lane for repairs, would race his way from the back of the pack to a solid fifth place finish. Heat race winners were Thomas Roberts and Dean Wray.
USRA B-Mods would witness the familiar face of Chad Clancy #21c in victory lane for the second week after winning the Iron Man race last weekend. Clancy would slip out to a big lead as the action was hot and heavy behind him. Two track legends were left to decide second and third spot as Randy Ainsworth #57 and Doug Keller #7k would battle door handle to door handle for nearly the entire race. Ainsworth would gain the edge at the line to place second, leaving Keller third. Truman Asher #73 would hold off the high side charge of “Mr. Excitement” Jim Cameron #96c to finish fourth, with Cameron fifth. Heat race winners included Chad Clancy, Truman Asher, Matt Dorssom #3d, and Dustin Miller #52m. B-Feature winner was “Rockin” Ronnie Miller #76.
The 2013 track champion Mich Ross would add to his trophy collection as he would pick up the feature win in the USRA Hobby Stocks. Ross lead the whole way with #83 of heat race winner Gary Ainsworth second, and the 17t of Thomas Odom third.
Up and comer in the USRA Modified class “Young Gun” Trevor Hunt would wheel his #99h machine to victory lane in dominate fashion. Hunt would use his front row outside starting spot as an advantage to launch him to an early lead and would never look back. Heated racing action ensued behind Hunt as you could throw a blanket over the next ten competitors. Kerry Davis #68 would run second the majority of the race and would be passed on a restart by the #69 of Zach Sanders. Sanders would go on to place second, moving Davis to third. 2013 Track Champion “Superman” Steven Glenn #26s would hold off the always fast Dennis Elliott #29 to place fourth as Elliott would round out the nights top five. Heat race winners were John Hanson #2h, Zach Sanders #69, and Steven Glenn #26s.
I-35 Speedway would like to thank all of the participants in the Frisbee golf contest on the front stretch during Intermission activities. A perfect night of weather and a perfect track equaled great racing action in all classes. We invite everyone back next week for McElroy Metals Night at the Races plus the Midwest Lightning Sprints will invade the 3/8 mile speedway. Intermission entertainment for next week includes five drivers choosing five fans to participate in the “raw egg toss” in front of the grandstands. We hope to see everyone back next week for more “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.
