Race Season Begins June 12
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Hawkeye Downs is excited to announce racing will start with fans, on Friday, June 12th. The night will be the start of our points racing series, which will continue until the Fan Appreciation Season Finale on August 21st. In order to comply with state requirements, the grandstands will open at 50% capacity. Thorough cleaning and physical distant procedures will be implemented to reduce the chance of transmission of diseases.
The night will include our local Hornets, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, Legends, and Sportsman series’, as well as the touring Midwest Truck Series. The Midwest Truck Series features primarily drivers from Wisconsin, where most races on that schedule are held. It will be the first race for the series here since 2017.
It will also be a big night for the Legends series, which will have its annual $1000-to-win regional race, which brings several drivers from out of state to participate. Some of the best to race the series in the Midwest will compete against each other for national points.
The updated schedule includes the return of SPI Outlaw Street Drags, which will kick off on Sunday, June 14th before heading back to the regular Thursday schedule in July. Spectators and drivers alike will also find our second Enduro of the year takes place on Saturday, June 27th. This event will be a 200-lap Enduro which will have a “tropical” theme to it. The best themed car will win a bonus, and spectators are encouraged to dress the theme as well.
Late models will be back on the schedule starting on June 19th and will race on four other race dates in addition to the fan favorite, Big 8 Series night, which will be rescheduled due to COVID-19. This date will be announced at a later time.
Friday, June 5th has been designated as a practice night, where drivers can test their cars, check safety equipment, and more. Media is welcome to interview drivers and can coordinate with Caleb Slouha by emailing caleb.slouha@hawkeyedowns.org.
