Racing at I-35 Speedway

WINSTON, MO (August 10, 2024) – School (was) out for summer, but it’s the time of year kids hate and parents love. As we start on the homestretch at I-35, last night was our Back to School bash, filled with prizes for the family and great racing on track.
The first feature of the night, our E-Mods, was also our biggest field and longest race. After a rocky start followed by a few early restarts, the field settled down and Casey Burnett held off Tony Layne and Corey Myers. Next up was the Jr Sport compacts, where Grant Sheetz started mid pack and roared to the front for the win. His night almost ended early when he came down on the nose of Emma Mathers car, but he was able to save it while completely sideways and come back to win.
Pure Stocks came next, with Mich Ross dominating most of the race. One of his biggest competitors last night, Conrad Kauffman, was running second and flipped his car after digging the splitter in the mud. The Midwest Limited Late Models were back this week with one of our bigger fields in the class this year, including all three feature winners this season. With three fast cars it was Mark Dotson who pulled away from Tyler Hibner and Paul Glendenning for the win.
The B mods also had a fast field, with the top five starters in the feature all former winners this season. Trouble for Adam Dunwoodie and Jake Richard’s, last weeks feature winner, ended their nights early, while Chris Leathers was not able to catch the 56 of Shadren Turner late. The Medieval USRA stock cars rolled on track next, with Doug Keller holding off points leader Nic Hanes to bring home the victory.
USRA Modifieds came next, with both dominant drivers in the class, Tyler Hibner and Houston Johnson, once again running 1-2 late. Lap traffic played a role in this one, first slowing leader Tyler Hibner and allowing Houston to make up time, then as the leader cleared the lap cars Houston’s progress was slowed making his way through, allowing Hibner to pull away again for the win. Sports compacts were our final show of the night, with Johnathan Hartman starting up front and leading late before blowing his engine, allowing points leader Brad Mick to sneak by for another feature win.
Thank you to our sponsors, drivers, track crew and of course the fans for another spectacular night. We hope the family was able to come out, have a great time and maybe go home with some school supplies too. Full results posted below, and we’ll see you all next week!
