Rob’s Cycle Night at Winston Raceway

WINSTON, MO (July 13, 2013) – Leading off the nights feature racing action saw point leader Bud Wilson #75 mount a charge to the front with a last lap pass on Don Marrs #9 for the feature win.  Marr would go on to place second, with Austin Johnson #98 holding off brother Houston Johnson #97 to place third and fourth.  Marty Powell #9p overcame heat race mechanical problems to come home fifth.

 Back to the 3/8 mile of dirt once again are the always exciting Midwest Lightning Sprints.  Starting in the front row Rick Murcko #48m would lead early but fade late as Mark Billings #51 proved to be the fastest on the track on his way to the night’s victory. Tony Layne #71 would start near the back, after a fuel-line fire took him out of heat race contention, to place a very solid second place.  Greg Black #53 would hold off a hard charging #15h of Tony Huvlin to place third, moving Huvlin to fourth.  Early race leader Murcko would fade late and have to settle for fifth.

Leading every lap in route to victory was #88 of “Big” Jeff Dixon as mechanical problems would not rear its ugly head this night.  Dixon was challenged early and often by Kevin Anderson #417, who would place second, and Thomas Roberts #95x, who would place third.  Current point leader Dean Wray #77 would hold off two time feature winner Brad Whitney #x9 as they would place in that order for fourth and fifth.

With zero laps of practice or heat race action Nick “The Kid” Roberts #23jr would start the feature last and end the feature first.  Roberts would use the high side to his advantage in holding off a very fast Clint Baker #17x, as Baker would have to settle for second.  Wes Bestgen #15b would find the 3/8 mile of dirt to his liking as he would hold off point leader Randy Ainsworth #57 to place third and Ainsworth fourth.  Gregg Truelove #44 continues to improve week after week finishing a strong fifth.

Continuing his dominate season at I-35 Speedway, “Crazy” Kenny Champ #3 would find himself in McCarthy Auto Group Victory Lane yet again.  Champ jumped out to an early lead and would hold off a persistent Mich Ross #34 who placed second.  Rookie contender Cody Doolittle #5 would get past a spinning Lee Farmer #17f to place third, with Farmer recovering to place fourth.  Bryce “Spiderman” Whitney #x9 continues to improve each week with a solid fifth place finish.

Going green to white to checkered for a second week in a row the IMCA Modifieds would not disappoint the great fans in attendance.  Cory Wray #69n would power through the pack early to pass Darren Shaw #11, who would slide over the berm in turn three, and never look back on his way to another victory.  Hunter Marriott #62 would back up last week’s feature win with a solid second place finish.  “Mr. Excitement” Jim Cameron #96c raced his way to third, with Shaw fading late to fourth place.  Buz Kaster #54 rounded out the features top five to bring the nights racing to a close.

I-35 Speedway again would like to thank all of our loyal fans and all those participating in the egg toss and NASCAR Trivia during the nights Intermission’s festivities.  Reminding all kids, young and old, next week at Intermission we will be bringing back the Hula-Hoop competition.  So please bring out those Hula-Hoops, get those hips warmed up, and let’s have some fun at I-35 Speedway “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.
