Round Number 5 Gets Going At Lakeside Speedway Friday Night

| May 16, 2012

KANSAS CITY, KS (May 16, 2012) – To start the 2012 season, four races are in the books at Lakeside Speedway. A total of 13 different winners have been to victory lane out of 16 feature events. We have seen close races, exciting action and impossible finishes. What is next for the fast 1/2 mile track in KCK?

More of the same great racing action!

Friday, May 18th, will be Sports Nutz Night At the races and look for exactly the same kind of action you have been treated to all season long. The spectator gates will be opening at 5:30 p.m., hot laps are scheduled for 7 p.m. and the first green flag racing starts at 7:30 p.m.

Last week was another exciting event at C.A.R.B. Night at the races.

In the Modified division, Tim Karrick, held off a late race charge by Darron Fuqua to win his 2nd feature of the season. Karrick has the most wins of any driver at Lakeside Speedway since the track returned to dirt in 2000. In 2012 it appears with age he is only getting better behind the wheel.

In the points race Karrick holds a slight advantage over the youngster, Cody Agler. Like Karrick, Agler has also two feature wins to his credit this season. As a matter of fact both drivers pilot Skyrocket Chassis Modifieds and that is the only car to make it to the Johnsonville Victory Lane in 2012.

The Grand National feature a week ago was one of attrition. Several cars incurred mechanical malfunctions or were caught up in a few of the wrecks that would cause them to leave the track early. When the checkered flag finally fell, it was Darren Kling racing his way to victory. Kling had some problems early in the season. He knew he had a fast race car but he needed to hold it together for the 20 laps during a feature. Last Friday night was it. As other drivers struggled, Kling cruised to victory.

Kling moved into 3rd in the Grand National point standings after his win. Kelby Ostrander has on to the top spot right now with a series of quality finishes.

Four races up and four different winners highlight the Factory Stock and B Mod divisions at Lakeside Speedway.

Jason Ryun put up a strong run last Friday night and won his first Factory A main of the year. Ryun joined Joe Smith Jr., Scott Moore and Justin Seifert as the only winners so far in 2012. The Factory Stock division is one that has been competitive since day number 1 at Lakeside Speedway. Door to door and wheel to wheel these drivers go lap after lap putting on some of the best racing that you will see in the Midwest!

It should have been no surprise that Bobby Russ Wood motored his way to victory last week at Lakeside. The week before he won the B Feature and appeared to have a fast car. Wood, like so many other drivers, thought that he just needed that one break to put him over the top. Starting on the front row last Friday night must have been just the break he needed. Wood rocketed to the top spot and sped his way to win number 1 on the season.

Mike Higley continues to lead the points, but Nick Newton, Terry Bruner, Ben Kates and Gene Claxton are ready to move up in the coming weeks. The B Mod race to the championship should be a fun one to watch.

Adult tickets at Lakeside Speedway are $12, kids 8 to 14 are $6 and children 7 and under are always FREE!
