Ryan gets third Davenport win

DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 7, 2017) – As the racing season starts to wind down, the intensity starts to ratchet up. Such was the case Friday night at the Davenport Speedway.
The Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model class got its first three-time winner of the 2017 season in Matt Ryan of Davenport. Ryan started eighth and would not see the lead until late in the race.
The “real deal” Joe Beal led the first fifteen laps of the race, after starting in the front row. Ryan dove inside of Beal on lap sixteen, to take the point.
In his first visit to the track this season, Chad Holladay finished second. Chuck Hanna finished third, ahead of Rob Toland and Jeremiah Hurst. Beal would finish sixth.
Ryan and Andy Nezworski won the late model heats.
Rob Toland recorded his second Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature win of the season. Toland led all twenty laps of the main, despite a late race caution that set up a three lap shootout to the finish.
Bruce Hanford survived a fierce battle for second, with Bob Dominacki taking third. Mitch Morris and Kurt Kile completed the top five.
Twenty-six modifieds were on hand. Heat race wins went to Rob Toland, Jason Pershy, and Mitch Morris.
Jeff Struck Jr. made it two in a row and three victories for the season in Koehler Electric Street Stock action. Struck took the lead on an inside pass of Brandon Setser on lap eleven and never looked back. Setser held on to finish second, while Gene Ehlers put together a late race charge to take third. Nick Hixson and Cary Brown were fourth and fifth respectively.
Jared Waterman did one position better than last week as he captured his first Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod feature of the season. Waterman started sixteenth and three-wheeled his way past Keith Blum on lap eleven. Jared led the rest of the way to the checkers for the win.
After the race, Waterman’s car was protested, but passed post-race inspection as well.
Blum finished second, followed by Jake Morris, Brandon Jewell, and Dave Engelkens, in that order.
The American Iron Racing Series was also racing Friday night at the Davenport Speedway. It was a clean sweep for Tim Arp as he won his heat race and feature. Bart Miller would finish second in the main. Jeff Struck Jr. was third and Bruce Yoerger fourth. First heat winner Jeff Walker finished fifth.
Next Friday, July 14th, the long-anticipated and twice re-scheduled IMCA Mod Madness 50 comes to the Davenport Speedway. $2,000 will go to the winner of the modified feature. Guest class for the evening will be the Midwest Jalopies.
