Schirm Rolls to the Repeat at Stuart Speedway
Stuart, IA (July 7) – Fans and drivers returned to Stuart Speedway for the seventh night of the season with all regular classes plus the Mod Lites. Josh May, Shawn Cooney, Jamie Schirm, Andrew Burg, Colby Oberembt, Luke Wanninger and Andy Forcht were the winners on Jorgensen Custom Hay Services Night at the Races.
Mod Lites were up first with Dusty Masolini and Randy Bryan on the front row. Masolini led until Josh May moved by on lap nine. May would go on to the win over Masolini, Jimmy May, Charlie Brown and Bryan. May and Brown were the heat race winners.
Next up was the IMCA Sport Compacts with Jason Montes and Deavon Richards at the front. Richards led lap one with Jordan Androy leading the next three. Shawn Cooney moved by Androy and went on to the win. Androy was second with David Archibald third, Richards fourth and Jodie Maben fifth. Cooney was also the heat race winner.
IMCA Stock Cars came out next with Mike Nichols and Michael Walrod on the front row. Nichols led the first four laps with last week’s winner Jamie Schirm taking over the lead when Nichols slowed on the backstretch. One yellow on lap sixteen was the only thing to slow down Schirm as he went on to the win. Jeff Anderson, Marcus Fagan, Joe Zadina and Nyle Godwin rounded out the top five with Schirm and Jeff Joldersma the heat race winners.
Gina Greubel and Jason Kohl brought out the IMCA Hobby Stocks next with Kohl leading right away. Chad LeGere and then Mike Pruitt chased Kohl until Shannon Anderson passed Pruitt on lap six. Kohl led lap seven and as the three top cars came through three and four, contact between all of them resulted in Anderson and Pruitt being black flagged and Kohl going back in the field. This resulted in Brandon Pruitt taking over the lead and looking to cruise to the win. That came to an end on lap thirteen with a black flag for smoke, handing the lead to Andrew Burg. Burg would go on to the win, his first in a number of years. Jamie Songer was second with LeGere third, Austin Luellen fourth and Dustin Lynch fifth. Songer and Anderson were the heat race winners.
IMCA Northern Sportmods came out next with Ty Luellen and Cole Ferguson at the front. Those two made contact in turn one along with Matt Webb. That allowed Clint Luellen to take the lead. Ferguson recovered enough to regain second place by lap six, but still was close to a straightaway behind C. Luellen. That lead went away with a lap seven caution for Michael Murphy. Luellen would continue to lead until the white flag lap when Ferguson slid up the track coming out of turn two, making contact with Luellen. Ferguson went on to the win, but after the race Luellen tracked down Ferguson and spun him out. All of the contact and rough driving resulted in the top two cars being penalized giving the win to Colby Oberembt. Veteran Larry Embrey finished in second with C. Luellen third, Ferguson fourth and Matt Webb fifth. Ferguson was the heat race winner.
Tony Hilgenberg and Rex Parkison brought out the IMCA Modifieds next with Parkison leading lap one. Luke Wanninger moved to the front on lap two, and after two cautions had slowed the field, he ran off and left everyone to claim the feature win. Josh Gilman, Josh Most, Scott Bash and Parkison rounded out the top five with Wanninger also the heat race winner.
6 Cylinder FWD’s were last on the card with Daniel Duranceau and Deavon Richards on row one. Cory Sauerman led the first four laps with Andy Forcht moving by on lap four. Forcht would go on to take the win over Sauerman, Richards, Justin McKinney and Duranceau. Duranceau was the heat race winner.
We’d like to thank all who came out to support the race track on a warm Sunday evening. Next week is NAPA Auto Parts Night at the Races. There will be a draw/redraw for the Hobby Stocks as the John Wetzel Memorial returns to the Speedway. Also, there are no number fees for the rest of the season at Stuart so tell your friends and bring a car for some great side by side racing! See you then!
