Schmitt, Crapser capture Iron Man Challenge checkers at Chateau Raceway

| June 7, 2013

LANSING, Minn. (June 6) – Tom Schmitt and Cory Crapser captured the wins Thursday night as the Iron Man Challenge made its debut at the Chateau Raceway in Lansing, Minn.

Schmitt led the first 14 laps of the USRA Stock Car main event, but relinquished the lead to points leader Mitch Hovden on lap 15. Two laps later, Lynn Panos snagged the top spot, but Schmitt wrestled it back with two laps to go and went on to claim the $750 top prize.

Panos, who started 15th, garnered his fifth straight runner-up finish in Iron Man Challenge events. In addition to the $100 Hard Charger Award, he also was one of four “mystery spots” that received a $50 bonus from Adams Racing Chassis.

Hovden held on for third, Ned Kalis was fourth and Shay Curtin rounded out the top 5 finishers.

Troy Hovey took charge at the start of the USRA B-Mod feature race, leading the first 14 of 25 laps around the 1/3-mil clay oval. With 10 to go, however, Cory Crapser slid by to take the lead and never gave it up the rest of the way.

The win was worth $500, and propelled Crapser into the Iron Man Challenge points lead for the USRA B-Mods.

Ben Moudry was second, Jacob Bleess took third, Hovey wound up in the fourth spot and Jerry Young finished fifth.

Up next for the Iron Man Challenge will be Friday night at the Rapid Speedway located at the Lyons County Fairgrounds in Rock Rapids, Iowa. The pit gate opens at: 4:30 p.m., grandstand opens at: 5:30, hot laps start at 6:50 and the first heat race hits the track at 7:30 p.m.

This week’s action wraps up at the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, Iowa, on Saturday. Pit gate opens at 3 p.m., grandstand opens at 5, hot laps happen at 6 and racing begins at 6:30 p.m.

All three nights will also feature USMTS Modifieds on the racing card.

The entry fee each night for USRA Stock Cars is $25 for licensed drivers or $35 for non-licensed. The entry fee for USRA B-Mods is $20 and $30, respectively.
