BURLINGTON, IA (8-3-13) – Race fans got plenty  of racing action with 105 cars ready for competition on Precision Equipment night at 34 Raceway. Kids were treated to a huge candy dash courtesy Sean Wyett Racing and crew and yes there was plenty of the thrills of racing. When the night was completed all six winners made repeat trips to the victory lane including John Schulz (sprints), West Burlington; Mitch Morris (modifieds), Eldridge; Jason Cook (stock cars), Mt. Pleasant; Tony Dunker (sport mods) Quincy, Il.; Austen Becerra (4 cyl), Carthage, Il., and Chase Flatt (mod lites), Monmouth, Il. With season championship night nearing on August 24 its getting down to the wire for those championship winning points.

Coming up this week, Saturday, August 10  is Weikert Iron and Metal, Siemens Employee Night and Bobcat of Burlington Night at the races. The UMP Late Models will return as well as the Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modifieds, Weikert Iron and Metals Sport Mods and I Connect You/Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders.  A drivers on track autograph session will be held for the fans as drivers bring their cars to the front stretch and sign autographs for the fans during intermission. Mark your calendars for the popular Brockway Mechanical Sprint Invaders 360 Sprints Night of the Twins where fans will see not one but two Sprint Invaders features on August 17.

Mitch Morris,  picked up his fourth IMCA Modified feature win topping the eighteen car field. Morris took the lead on lap seven and battled Dean McGee for several laps. A yellow flag came out on lap nineteen setting up a green, white checkered finish but Morris would hold his lead and take the win. Tyler Glass, Brandon Rothzen and Dustan Fenton round out the top five. With two point races remaining for the modifieds, Morris holds a 24 point lead over Jeff Waterman.

Fans were looking to the sky for a full moon during the IMCA Stock Car feature which was plagued with yellow flags ,but overlooking that, the top two racers were putting on a show for the fans. Jason Cook and Brett Timmerman put on a show for the fans exchanging positions in the 18 car, 20 lap feature. Cook took the final lead of the race on lap fourteen and started to pull away to take the checkered flag in a time called race for his third win this season. With their season championship night Aug. 24 Jason Cook holds a 25 point lead over Abe Huls.

Chase Flatt took the lead from Collin Ball on lap three and went on to hold off Daniel Keltner in a close finish in the Mod Lite main event. Flatt began to put some distance between him and Keltner midway through the twelve lap race but Keltner wouldn’t give up closing in the on leader at the end finishing second by only 1 car length. Two point races remain for the Mod Lites with Evan Epperson holding a 15 point lead over Flatt.

There was not stopping John Schulz Saturday night who would take the win in the W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprint, eighteen car feature. Shultz was moving fast working his way up from his fifth row start to second by lap three. He would take the lead from Ryan Jamison on lap ten as they worked through lap traffic and would pull away to get his second win this year. Daniel Bergquist was also on the move passing Ryan Jamison for second. With one point race remaining for the 305 Sprints it’s a close battle for the points with Schulz leading with 315 followed by Donnie Steward with 310 and Bergquist with 303.

Tony Dunker picked up  his third win, second straight at 34 Raceway topping the seventeen car field. Bobby Anders leads the point race with 378 points followed by Derek St. Clair with 359 and Sean Wyett with 356 with two point races remaining for the sport mods.

Austen Becerra picked up his sixth 4 Cylinder feature win Saturday night after taking the lead from Jerrod Nichols on lap seven of the twelve lap feature. Wayne Noble passed Nichols on the same lap but could’t catch Becerra who was pulling away from the field.  Noble leads the point race with 427 points over John Whalen (415) and Jacob Brown (400) with three point races remaining for the 4 cylinders.
