INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (September 20, 2013) – Steady rain over the past two days has forced officials to cancel the September 20 season finale at Independence Motor Speedway.

The event, which was scheduled to feature the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models and unsanctioned Stock Cars, will not be made up.

Nearly three inches of rain over the past two days, combined with lack of drying conditions on race day, led to the cancellation of the event.

“The problem is the rain didn’t come in a short period of time,” explained promoter Todd Summers of S&B Promotions. “Had it come in a few hours, the rain would have run off, but it was a soaker over the course of a couple days.”

“We may have been able to make a track,” he continued, “but it would have been very rough and we do not want to have a Deery Series on a rough race track.”

With the season in Independence now complete, the next event is the weekly racing awards banquet, which is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, in the 4-H Building on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds. Details for that event will be made available in the coming weeks.
