Spoon River Speedway Announces Plans for 2024 Season
Lewistown, IL (November 4, 2023) Officials with Spoon River Speedway are excited to announce operational changes for the upcoming 2024 racing season. Cloyd Barden has entered into a lease with the Denney family and will oversee promoting duties at the Central Illinois oval for the 2024 season.
Barden, a Quincy, Illinois businessman owns Hess Auto Agency and is a longtime supporter of stock car racing. Barden succeeds Morey and Brad Denney, the father-son pair who have been at the helm since 1982, promoting the 3/8-mile oval for 40 years in total.
“We’re excited to have Cloyd step into the promoter’s role here at Spoon River and wish him the best of luck”, said Brad Denney.
The track will open for its 41st year of action in 2024. Spoon River has hosted many marquee events over time including the Modified Plowboy Nationals, Tom Knowles Memorial, Gary Cook Jr Memorial, annual Summer Nationals events and more. In recent years, Spoon River Speedway has gained national attention with their involvement in FloRacing’s “Illinois Speedweek”.
An early piece of news to share related to the 2024 racing schedule is that the World of Outlaws CASE Late Model Series will make their first visit to Spoon River Speedway.
A general informational and rules meeting will be held November 12, 2023 at Country Line Bar & Grill, in Canton, Illinois beginning at 1PM. Country Line Bar & Grill is located at 725 W. Locust Street, in Canton.
