SportMods, Hobbies and Sport Compacts race for increased purse June 22 at Independence
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – Weekly racing continues this Saturday, June 22 at Independence Motor Speedway and drivers in three divisions will have the opportunity to race for extra money.
The IMCA Northern SportMod, IMCA Hobby Stock and IMCA Sport Compact divisions will see increased purses as a result of the canceled Entry Level Extravaganza special which was rained out earlier this month. The purse schedule planned for that event will instead be awarded during the June 22 weekly program.
SportMods will compete for $500-to-win, Hobby Stocks $300-to-win and Sport Compacts $200-to-win June 22. All three divisions will be competing for weekly track points and run under the normal qualifying format.
IMCA-sanctioned Late Models, Modifieds and Stock Cars will also compete that evening during the seventh night of weekly points racing at the speedway.
Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for students ages 12-17. Kids 11 and under will be admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25.
Gates open at 4 p.m. every Saturday, with hot laps at 6 and racing to follow.
Budweiser Mid-Season Championships will be held the following Saturday, June 29. After considering multiple formats, the speedway will introduce a new and unique qualifying procedure for that program. The format will combine traditional straight-up lineups based on season point totals and invert qualifying used during weekly racing. Details will be released in the coming days.
