OSBORN, Mo. – The 4th Annual Joe Crist Memorial boasted the toughest field of IMCA Stock Cars US 36 Raceway has seen this seen.

Twenty-nine cars checked in to battle for the $1,562 to win race. With 26 laps on the board, Joe Crist’s number 62 reversed, the field rolled into turn one with pole-sitter Steve Starmer in the lead. With constant two to three wide racing behind him, Starmer immediately found the high line to be the fast way around.

Chad Clancy quickly moved into the second position and began to look for a way around Starmer. Behind Clancy, Doug Keller and JJ Baumli began their move threw the field as well.

However, for the entire second half of the event, the battle raged on between Starmer and Clancy. As laps wound down, Clancy made several attempts on the low side to get to the inside of Starmer, but never could find enough speed. Leading all 26 laps, Starmer became the fourth winner of the Joe Crist Memorial in as many years, making the trip to Westfall GMC Victory Lane.

Chad Clancy, Doug Keller and last year’s Joe Crist Memorial winner JJ Baumli finished second, third and fourth. Brad Derry held off Derrick Brown to complete the top five. The hard charger award went to Danny Holt who finished eight after starting 21st.

As part of the Joe Crist Memorial, the US 36 Raceway Pure Stocks challenged the IMCA Hobby Stocks. The US 36 Raceway Pure Stocks won the battle as Connor Masoner dominated the event. Early on, the best running Hobby Stock of Luke Ramsey looked to have something for Masoner, before an engine issue sent Ramsey pit side.

Logan Headley ran a solid race to finish second. Kasey Ayers finished third with Jason Ryun fourth. Tony Fetterman earned the award for best finishing Hobby Stock as he rounded out the top five, after starting 11th.

The IMCA Sprint Cars saw Gunner Pike storm to the early lead and quickly drive away from the field. With a win easily in his sights, he entered lapped traffic. Off turn two with a few laps to go, Pike made contact with a lapped car ending his night. Kenny Potter inherited the lead, with Jay Russell behind him after charging from 10th. On the restart, Potter held off Russell for a lap. However the two started exchanging sliders, with Russell getting the win on a last lap pass and photo finish at the line. Potter finished second with Vince Franks third and Doug Cook fourth.

The IMCA Sport Mod track champion from one year ago, Steven Clancy, had yet to find victory lane in 2020. Still leading the points this year though, Clancy made the moves early to put that first win in his sights. However, late in the race, Chris Wright made a move to the inside. Wright looked to have the pass completed, but the caution came out with two to go, allowing Clancy to regroup out front. Knowing Wright’s line, Clancy took it away from Wright on the restart and drove to the win. Tim Eaton made a late pass for second, with Wright finishing third. Casey Burnett and Zach Nitsch completed the top five.

A strong field of E-Modifieds checked in and for the second time this season, Chris Dishong earned the win. Dishong quickly moved from the sixth place starting position and dominated the second half of the race. Casey Burnett charged up from 10th to finish second, bringing 11th and 12th place starters Justin Asher and Jeremiah Asher along with him to finish third and fourth. Shawn Burns completed the top five.

Up next at US 36 Raceway is another edition of the season championship chase. The IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, E-Modifieds and Pure Stocks are all in action.
