Terbo pushes streak to four with Davenport win
DAVENPORT, Ia. (June 18, 2024) – What started as a hot and windy afternoon, turned into a great night of racing at Davenport Speedway. The dirt oval played host to the DIRTcar Summer Nationals. With thirty-eight late models on hand to vie for the $5,000 first place prize, the action on track was equally hot.
“Terbo” Tyler Erb needs to buy some brooms with his winnings. Erb collected his fourth straight Summer Nationals victory and his first ever win at Davenport Speedway.
Erb also had a clean sweep in the DIRTcar Summer National events. Tyler set the pace in qualifying with a lap of 13.991 seconds. He then won his heat race and led the last nine laps of the feature for the win.
The only challenge Erb had to face was Australian Kye Blight. Blight started the feature on the front row and might have been able to lead flag to flag, if he had not encountered heavy lapped traffic. Kye would hold on to finish second, nearly two seconds behind the leader.
Garrett Smith finished a distant third. Derrick Stewart and Jason Feger rounded out the top five. Erb, Stewart, Blight, and Daryn Klein won the late model heat races. Matt Fruman won the consolation race while Max McLaughlin captured the last chance showdown.
Logan Cumby was leading the IMCA SportMod feature with just a couple laps to go. Cumby spun in turn one and collected Logan Veloz. Dakota Cole grabbed the lead and the win. Mike Claussen finished second and Josh Starr third.
Despite a late race restart, Zach Zuberbrier held on to win the Street Stock feature. Jeff Struck Jr. started seventh and would finish in the runner-up spot. Jake Lund took third.
Davenport Speedway will officially kick off Summer with Ice Cream Night at the races, on Friday, June 21st. Our guest class for the evening will be the Nostalgia Late Models.
