Tolands finish 1-2 at Davenport Season Championships

DAVENPORT, Ia. (August 26, 2016) – Friday was Season Championship Night at the Davenport Speedway. The track champions were determined in all four weekly classes. To make things easier on fans and officials, all four point leaders won their respective features and put an exclaimation point on their track titles.
In Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model action, Rob Toland led flag to flag for the victory and track title. The win was his fourth at Davenport this season. Bobby Toland made a late race charge to finish second a give the family a 1-2 finish. Justin Kay came from deep in the field to finish third. Matt Ryan and Brunson Behning completed the top five.
Mitch Morris capped off his championship run with a victory in the Eriksen’s IMCA Modified feature. Morris managed to stay just ahead of the battle for second and take his fourth win of the season. Bruce Hanford was all over the top five before finishing second. Doug Crampton took home a third place finish followed by Matt Werner and Bryce Garnhart in that order.
Jeremy Gustaf collected his fourth feature win of the season on his way to the Koehler Electric Street Stock championship. Cary Brown battled his way to a second place finish. Third went to Dwayne Smith Jr., while Chad Coyne and Bryan Ritter finished fourth and fifth respectively.
The Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod title and feature went to Tony Olson of Cedar Rapids. Olson used his pole starting position to blast away from the field for his seventh feature win of the season. Jake Morris finished second with Andrew Burk third. Doug Burkhead and Matt Short rounded out the top five.
Guest classes for the evening were the Midwest Jalopies and the American Iron Racing Series. Rodney Haack was able to outdistance a charging Terry Mattly for the Jalopy feature. The A.I.R.S. feature went to Mike Loughren. Mechanic Races were also held. Jim Willert (modified) and Dave Headrick (street stock) were winners.
Next up for the Davenport Speedway is the Night of Destruction on Saturday, September 10th.
The evening will feature Cheater Races in the Modified, Street Stock, and SportMod classes, a visit from the Vintage Racecars of Illinois, and the fan favorite – THE TRAILER RACE.
