ULMA in Search of Dry Weather for Triple Race Weekend
by: Sam Stoecklin – ULMA Public Relations
ULMA (May 8, 2013) – Drivers competing in ULMA-sanctioned action have only competed one time in six attempts this year but things are set to change in a big way this weekend as the Lucas Cattle Company ULMA season heads into a triple race weekend at all three affiliated tracks.
On Friday, Callaway Raceways in Fulton, Missouri tries for the fifth-consecutive week to begin its season after four straight weather cancellations. Last year, current point’s leader Jason Russell of Henley, Missouri, raced to victory lane on eight occasions on his way to the overall title. Chris Lapp also recorded multiple victories at the track last season and is expected to contend again this year. In addition, Justin Russell, former track champion Vance Wilson, Zeke Langley, and Todd McCoin are all expected to compete. Check out Callaway Raceways online by heading over to www.callawayraceways.com for track information and event start times.
The only track to host a ULMA-sanctioned event so far this year is Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, where this Saturday night the track continues its season. Jason Russell claimed victory a few weeks back in a race which saw several drivers involved in a front-stretch melee. One of the few good things about some downtime during a regular race season is that drivers have time to regroup and make repairs as the season picks up. For additional details, start times, and admission information be sure to visit the speedway online at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
For the first time since October of 2011, drivers have the chance to compete in Moberly, Missouri at the newly christened Randolph County Raceway. Formerly known as 24 Raceway, the property has experienced several upgrades including race surface improvements and building and grounds maintenance. After a successful opening weekend with an off-road special event last Saturday, drivers in several classes including ULMA Late Models can make their way to the track for Saturday night racing. ULMA has sanctioned various events at the track over the years with some of the best and most memorable finishes in ULMA history. Visit the track’s all-new website by pointing your web browser to www.randolphcountyraceway.com.
ULMA will be on-site at each of the tracks to provide license and registration paperwork, decals, and to answer questions. Drivers are encouraged to visit www.ulmaracing.com and click on the membership link to print and complete the 2013 form. In order to make opening night check in run as smooth as possible, ULMA asks drivers to complete paperwork prior to arrival and have license ready to present.
This season marks the first year for ULMA to partner with Hoosier Tire Midwest. Drivers may purchase tires from ULMA throughout the season by contacting ULMA officials, the program benefits drivers at the end of the season during the October 19 championship banquet, which takes place in California, Missouri. Please visit www.racetires.com for additional information.
Drivers earn championship points by keeping points earned from their 15 best race appearances throughout the season of the more than 50 possible scheduled race nights. ULMA sincerely thanks Hoosier Tire Midwest, FastShafts, Rod End Supply, RacingJunk.com, and PhotoGraphics by Shelly Payne for their support this season.
