USMTS Casey’s Cup Series competitors eligible for lucrative “near-perfect” attendance bonus

| May 23, 2012

MASON CITY, Iowa (May 22) – Officials from the United States Modified Touring Series announced last week that a new bonus program will be in place for the remaining USMTS Casey’s Cup Series events in 2012.

Thanks to overwhelming support from sponsors, competitors and fans so far this season, the newly-added bonus program, will add as much as $25,000 in additional cash awards to drivers with near-perfect attendance.

From each of the remaining USMTS Casey’s Cup Series qualifying events, there will be $1,000 set aside that will be designated as a bonus for drivers attending at least 16 of the remaining 17 shows between this Wednesday, May 23, at the I-35 Speedway in Mason City, Iowa, and the final qualifier on July 21 at the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb.

That makes as much as $17,000 in the pool of money that will be distributed equally among those drivers have near-perfect attendance, regardless of how many points they earn …

•    If 30 drivers qualify, each would earn approximately $566.
•    If 10 drivers qualify, each would earn approximately $1,700.
•    If just 1 driver qualifies, he or she would earn approximately $17,000.

In addition to this announcement, USMTS officials will also be contributing $500 from each of the remaining USMTS Casey’s Cup qualifiers that will be added to this year’s points fund in the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup, which starts Aug. 9 at the Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., and concludes Sept. 20-22 with the 14th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn.

All drivers competing in at least one USMTS Casey’s Cup qualifier are automatically qualified to compete for the championship title in the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup. All races during ‘The Hunt’ will pay a minimum of $3,000 to win with the 2012 USMTS Casey’s Cup champion pocketing at least $15,000 from the points fund.

Five days of cash and chaos is up next for the United States Modified Touring Series as the series head north for their traditional Memorial Day Weekend swing this Wednesday through Sunday, May 23-27.

This will be the eleventh straight year for the Memorial Day Weekend pentathlon through Northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota that annually draws dozens of the region’s best open-wheel modified drivers to five of the most popular dirt ovals in America’s heartland.

The USMTS one-of-a-kind four-wide parade lap featuring each driver displaying the American Flag has become a renowned tradition to race fans everywhere, but the show takes on special meaning this weekend as fans, drivers, officials and sponsors remember the fighting men and women of the United States military who, through their sacrifices, make it possible for all of us to enjoy the greatest spectator sport on the planet.

Action kicks off Wednesday at the I-35 Speedway in Mason City, Iowa, followed on Thursday by the first of three events this year at the historic Highway 3 Raceway in Allison, Iowa. Friday will find the rugged USMTS road warriors at the Chateau Raceway in Lansing, Minn., and on Saturday, it’s the first trip of the 2012 campaign to the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn. The weekend wraps up on Sunday in Kasson, Minn., at the Dodge County Speedway.

Each event will pay $2,000 to win, a minimum $250 to start and will award points in the USMTS Casey’s Cup Series.
