DONNELLSON, Iowa (Jan. 17) – Mike Van Genderen takes over the reins this season as promoter at Lee County Speedway.

The 2013 season will kick off March 29 with the Spring Extravaganza. Opening point night at the 3/8-mile dirt oval in Donnellson is April 5.

Point races for IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts continue on Fridays through Aug. 23.

“The opportunity to promote the Lee County Speedway came up after Super Nationals last year,” said Van Genderen, who will also return as promoter at Southern Iowa Speedway. “I want to provide the leadership and organization to make this a fun place to race like we did at Oskaloosa. I want drivers and fans to be excited about coming to the races here.”

Dirt has already been added to the racing surface in preparation for the new season.

“This is a great facility,” Van Genderen said. “It has lots of suites, an awesome grandstand and a nice catwalk on the backstretch.”

The Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds comes to town on Thursday, June 20. Northern SportMods headline the Friday, Sept. 13 special.

Modifieds are part of IMCA’s Belleville Motorsports North Central Region. Stock Car points earned at Donnellson figure toward Northern Region standings and Hobby Stock points toward Stephenville Starter Northern Region standings.

Sanctioned Hobbies return to weekly shows at Donnellson following a single outing in 2012.

RaceCeivers are required in all divisions at Lee County.
