VanderBeek starts new streak at Buena Vista Raceway
ALTA, Iowa (May 22, 2014) – Zack VanderBeek ended his streak of second- and third-place finishes in the USMTS Casey’s Cup powered by Swan Energy, and in doing so also ended Stormy Scott’s streak of four straight wins Thursday night at the Buena Vista Raceway.
VanderBeek started on the pole of the main event and led every lap in scoring his first win of the 2014 campaign and 24th of his United States Modified Touring Series career.
The win was worth $2,000 to the 29-year-old from New Sharon, Iowa.
Scott started the feature race in the fifth spot and clawed his way into second, but the 2012 USMTS Rookie of the Year could not find the muscle to get close to the 2004 USMTS Rookie of the Year.
Sixth-starting Dereck Ramirez was third, Kelly Shryock finished fourth and current USMTS Rookie of the Year points leader Jake Gallardo rounded out the top five at the flagstand.
Johnny Scott, Daniel Hilsabeck, Bryan Rowland, Joey Jensen and Jeremy Houle were sixth through tenth, respectively.
Hilsabeck, who started 13th, garnered his first Mesilla Valley Transportation Hard Charger Award of the year.
Friday will take the series to the Chateau Raceway in Lansing, Minn., for the 7th Annual Mike Guttormson Memorial. USRA B-Mods, WISSOTA Midwest Mods and Chateau Pure Stocks will round out the racing card.
Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and spectator gates open at 5:30. Hot laps begin at 6:30 and the first heat race hits the track at 7 p.m. Adult tickets are $18, kids ages 6-12 get in for $5 and children 5 and under are free.
The Chateau Raceway is a semi-banked one-third-mile gumbo clay oval located 5.0 miles north of Austin on US 218 (Lansing Exit), then 1.3 miles east on CR 2, then 0.4 mile south on CR 25, then 0.3 mile east on 266th St. For more information call 507-391-2486 or check out www.chateauraceway.net online.
On Saturday, the 12th Annual A&A Electric Minnesota Spring Challenge will be staged at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn. The Memorial Day Weekend wraps up Sunday, May 25, at the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, Iowa.
Comprising 12 events in 25 days, the Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Northern Region will be a flurry of action with most of the top open wheel dirt modified pilots in the region, and from around the country, tackling some of the most prestigious now-thawed speedplants in America.
