Veridian Credit Union to sponsor August 3 program at Independence Motor Speedway

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 31, 2013) – The final month of weekly points racing gets underway this Saturday at Independence Motor Speedway. The August 3 program will be sponsored by Veridian Credit Union.

In addition to the 13th night of weekly points racing, Veridian will be offering credit union merchandise giveaways, along with other items for the fans in attendance.

With just four nights of weekly racing remaining on the 2013 schedule, three drivers hold slim point leads in their respective divisions.

Alex Zwanziger and Brennen Chipp are seeking their first titles in the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod division. Zwanziger narrowly leads that division by a single point over Chipp. Lucas Lundry is 20 points back in third.

In the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, two-time defending track champion Sean Johnson leads six-time feature winner John Emerson by five points. Jarod Weepie sits in third place, 12 points behind the leader.

First-year Performance Bodies IMCA Modified driver Tyler Droste has positioned himself atop the standings in that division. Droste leads Ronn Lauritzen by six points entering the final month. J.D. Auringer, the 2007 track champion, and Mark Schulte, the defending Modified titlist, are tied for third and sit 30 points out of the lead.

Three other drivers have established a bit more breathing room in their pursuit of track titles.

Tyler Bruening holds a 37 point lead over Darren Ackerman in the IMCA Late Model standings, Merv Chandler leads Adam Gates by 32 points in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts and Benji Irvine has a 27 point advantage over Chris Luloff in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division.

Gates open at 4 p.m. August 3, with hot laps at 6 and racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for students ages 12-17. Kids under 12 are admitted free if accompanying a paid adult.
