Waterman takes Street Stock Clash cash at Davenport

DAVENPORT, Ia. (August 19, 2016) – Jake Waterman added his name to the record books as he sped to victory in the Street Stock Clash at the Davenport Speedway. For his efforts, Jake pocketed the $2,000 first place prize.
The fifty lap main event started with Keith Blum leading the first lap, with Rick Schriner taking over on lap two. Schriner would lead the next thirty laps, surviving six restarts. On lap thirty-three, Waterman put his car into the lead and would stay there the rest of the way to the checkers.
Jerry Miles spent almost the entire race in the top five. Miles moved into second place in the final ten laps and finished in the runner-up position. Schriner held on to finish third, with Donnie Louck and Jesse Owen rounding out the top five.
Street Stock heat race wins went to Kevin Dickey, Rob Nylin, and Jimmy Comins. Randy Lamar and Brendan Driscoll won the semis.
Rob Toland powered his way to victory in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature. Toland passed Spencer Diercks for the lead on lap four of the twenty-five lapper. Matt Ryan would also get by Diercks for second. Spencer held on to finish third. Joe Zrostlik and Justin Kay completed the top five.
Ray Guss Jr. and Justin Kay were heat race winners.
The victory was Toland’s third of the season at Davenport. The loss was Kay’s first of the year in IMCA Late Model competition at the track.
In Eriksen’s IMCA Modified action, Matt Werner picked up his third straight and fourth overall feature win in 2016. The race started with pole sitter Rick Ratliff leading laps one through four. Greg Durbin took over on lap five and controlled the race until a lap fourteen restart.
That is when Werner launched his way to the lead. Werner held off Durbin in the remaining laps for the win. Durbin finished second, ahead of Bruce Hanford, Mitch Morris, and Jason Pershy, in that order.
Pershy, Hanford, and Bryce Garnhart won the mod heats. Werner and Jake Bowman won the semis.
The Hawkeye Auto IMCA Sport Mods saw a first-time winner for 2016. Tyler Soppe became the first driver, other than Tony Olson, to win a SportMod feature at Davenport since June 3rd. Soppe started tenth, and after three early cautions, he took the lead from Dan Anderson on lap two.
Olson, who started 11th, worked his way up to second, but could not catch the speedy Soppe.
Anderson held on for a third place finish. Mitch Manterach and Jake Morris would finish fourth and fifth respectively
Next Friday, August 26th, it is Season Championship Night at the Davenport Speedway. The track champions will be determined in all four weekly classes. Guest classes will be the Midwest Jalopies and the American Iron Racing Series. Time permitting we will also have mechanic races.
