By Mike Hughes
HAYS, KS (June 30)—With severe weather in the area and severe lightning in the air, track officials at RPM Speedway in Hays, KS, halted the racing action after just one of the five features were completed on Saturday evening, June 30.
The Teels Trucks IMCA Modified, Advantage Glass Plus IMCA Stock Car, Golden Plains Trucking IMCA Sport Mod, and Rebel Tank Service IMCA Hobby Stock features will all be made up on the August 11th race program.
The Steel Fabrication 12-lap IMCA Sport Compact main event did get completed which saw point leader Monte Honas of Ellis picking up his second win of the season. Allan Rice jumped out to the early lead, only to see the race red flagged on lap 6 when Kirk Pfannenstiel rolled. Kirk was OK but done for the night. The caution waved on lap 8 when Trevor ‘The Hit Man’ Schmidt came to a stop, and Rice led the field back to green, only to be passed by Honas after the restart. Rice held off Shyla Hughes for second, with Brian Lobdell and Vincent Jasper rounding out the top five. Heat race winners were Schmidt and Honas.
