Winner’s Circle Awards Night at the Races at I-35 Speedway

 WINSTON, MO (September 14, 2013) – Grand Nationals kicked the racing excitement off with a bang as Bud Wilson #75 would jump out to an early lead.  Eight laps into the feature while coming off turn four mechanical problems for Wilson would force him to slow on the track.  Second place contender Don Marrs #9 would take evasive action leaving Austin Johnson #98, who was in a very close battle for second, nowhere to go as he and Wilson would collide down the front stretch.  Both Austin Johnson’s and Bud Wilson’s cars would receive heavy damage while both drivers would be okay.  After the track was cleared and racing resumed Don Marrs #9 would find himself in victory lane with Houston Johnson #97 second.  Bud Wilson would place third and heat race winner Austin Johnson would finish fourth.

Midwest Lightning Sprints returned to I-35 Speedway with the familiar face of Bobby Layne #01 claiming the features top spot.  Ken Billings #85 would hold off the hard charge of Mike Trent #49t to finish second, leaving Trent third.  Tony Layne #71 would lead early only to fade to the fourth spot with Luke McGee #13 fifth.  Heat race winner was Mark Billings #51.

IMCA Stock Cars lived up to their usual high standards with heat race winner “Big” Jeff Dixon #88 making it three feature victories in a row.  Dixon was challenged every lap by the #6x of Greg Keuhn, who would finish a strong second.  A blanket could be thrown over third through fifth in a caution free feature with; Jake Cameron #86c third, Kevin Anderson #417 fourth, and point leader Dean Wray #77 rounding out the top five.

IMCA Sport Mods would not disappoint as point leader and heat race winner Randy Ainsworth #57 would claim the feature victory.  Ainsworth would run second as other heat race winner Josh Steele #94j would set a blistering pace until mechanical problems forced him to the pits, leaving Ainsworth in the lead.  Clint Baker #17x would charge to the front from a tenth starting spot to place second.  The third heat race winner Mitch Booher #22b would hold off a very fast Lynn Starry #54 to place third as Starry would record an impressive fourth.  Gangster Racing Mike “The Baby-face” Nelson #95 would make his presence felt using the ford horsepower to claim the fifth spot.

“Mr. Burnout” Lee Farmer #17f returned to I-35 Speedway in fine fashion picking up the feature win in the IMCA Hobby Stock class.  New point leader Mich Ross #34 would battle his way from a back row starting position to place second, while Tyson Overton #42t would finish third.  Heat race winner and one time leader Billie Hoover #21h would have contact forcing him to the rear, only to make a dramatic comeback to place fourth moving David Truskett #83 to fifth.

IMCA Modified point leader Steven Glenn #26s would increase his already impressive point lead by adding another victory on Winner’s Circle Awards Night at the Races.  Buz Kaster would lead early, slip slightly in turn four, and pilot car #54 to a second place finish.  Fellow veteran race driver Johnny McGinnis #10 would charge towards the front challenging Kaster in the late stages only to finish third.  Jim Peeler #92p and John Hanson #2h would race side by side to the finish, with Peeler edging Hanson by mere feet at the line, to finish fourth with Hanson fifth.  Heat race winners included John Hanson and Buz Kaster.

I-35 Speedway would like to thank all their loyal fans for their continued support.  We would also like to thank our A-Mod and Grand National drivers for participating in the Intermission Water Balloon Fight in the infield.  Fun was had by all on this great night of racing.  We invite everyone back to I-35 Speedway next week 9/21/2013 as we will have our regular IMCA classes along with Grand Nationals and Midwest Lightning Sprints.  Intermission entertainment will feature 8-12 year olds who wish to participate in an “Old Tire Race” down the front stretch.  Eight participants will be randomly drawn to race our old tires with all those involved receiving a trophy.  Sign-up for this event will be at the main entrance for kids ages 8-12 being eligible.  So come one and come all for this great night of racing and family fun as we enjoy more “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.
